BEWARE O2 MyTravel Nasty Trick!

Anonymous
Not applicable
Well well well, what a surprise, o2 screwing over and over charging their customers again.

I thought the MyTravel bolt on was a great idea. Land in the country where I am holidaying (Turkey) and pay only £3.99 a day when I use data!

So I land in the morning of Sat 30th July and use my data to check emails, social
Media and use whatsapp.

I get to my hotel in the evening of Sat, 30th July and send a text to turn off o2 MyTravel as I don't need it anymore as I'm going to use a Turkish SIM card for the 2 weeks I'm here, all good right?

Wrong!

Get an email from o2 saying I've used £120.40 in data charges. SAY WHAT!?

Because I turned off MyTravel that same evening, I am being charged for the data I used that morning at the standard o2 roaming rates!

The live chat help was useless as per usual, and we all know how impossible it is to get hold of o2 on the phone when on holiday.

I'm hoping an o2 member of staff sees this and tries to help me rather than just quote nonsense at me like their crappy LiveChat did.

I await a response.

Moral of this story, o2 will take any chance to grab as much of your money as they can!

This is a whole new low for o2, I'm afraid to say.
Clearly they know travel was enabled when the data was used and clearly the data you used isn't worth £800 to them either.....
Just disgusting treatment by cs completely!

I would have hoped that they would be sensible and checked the timings of the data and when opt out of O2 Travel was actioned. As far as we know the system would update at midnight which would be 2am Turkey time. Let's hope complaints investigate further than customer service.

Nowhere in the O2 Travel T&Cs does it state that it must be in operation for the whole of the charging 24 hours.
So logically a user can assume that if it is turned off and on during the day then when it's on O2 Travel charges apply.

@Anonymous have you gotten any further with your complaint? After reading the entire thread I've got to say I'm dismayed (but not overly surprised) at 02 and how they've treat u.

It might be worth googling the CEO of 02 (we can't give out his deets on here, but they're readily available online) and getting in touch with his office. You'll get a response albeit from a minion, quite often it's the solution to problems not being addressed by cs.

Good luck, please let us know what happens though.
