Is there any way I can extend my airtime plan so it isn’t this expensive each month?

If you are on Refresh then look at the Flexible tariffs. You can flex your airtime down.

The other option is, if your contract is near it's end, then pay your device off and go for a much cheaper sim only plan https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/sim-cards/sim-only-deals#deviceType=phone&contractLength=P12M
