ROAMING DATA SPEED IN TURKEY

Hi All,

Just switched to “Ultimate plan” for 123 countries covered and wanted to enjoy the freedom.

Have arrived to Turkey, happy it is included in my plan.

Something is wrong, can’t do much with my data, there is no speed.

My O2 roaming speed is just around 2mbit in same service provider where itself is actually hitting over 100mbit.

I tested O2 using Turkcell and Turkcell itself in 2 different phones at the same time and I pictured the result, but can't upload here.

This is really unacceptable; in today’s tech you wouldn't be able to do anything with 2mbit speed. What a speed limitation !

Anyone knows how this could be better?

Not sure what phone you've got @Jon51?

Try the following :

Change your APN to mobile.o2.co.uk (if showing iData)

Turn off 5g.

See if that helps ?

2mbps is standard I think in some places

Used be 0.5mbps in the USA

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

I have done this and it is now reaching 1.60mbit.
😀

Lost a little bit of the speed

Seems it’s not really the best option to use O2 in some countries.

@Jon51

All as you agreed by accepting the T&C's

  1. Daily Allowances will apply for 24 hours from (i) the first use of any data; (ii) the first voice call you make back to the UK or within your destination , including voicemail (901) retrieval and voice calls; or (iii) the first text message sent back to the UK, whilst in your selected destination. There’s no fixed data allowance with O2 Travel, so to manage traffic (including audio and video streaming) we limit the service to 2Mbps.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

@Jon51

Some people use a local PAYG sim although this will only help you with data.

You could use Whatsapp or Messenger over Wifi to keep in touch with friends and family, as long  as they have the same apps.
