I don't know what is going on here and I'm not sure I believe it, but a thread has appeared elsewhere saying that O2 Webmail will be closing at the end of the year according to an O2 Web Chat advisor.
Maybe Chiara could check this out as people using this service may need to make other arrangements.

I have an o2 phone, but it was with my o2 contract mobile broadband that I got the o2 email account. Pretty sure that WAS part of the package.
Been using o2 address for all my important offical mail for nearly 6 years...Nightmare!!!

O2 Email has always been free and not part of any package, but everybody gets one when they sign up on the web site.

I have been with o2 since it first become Genie... I currently have 3 phones on contract and 3 o2 emails that I use very regularly, 1 in particular I use as my login and/or contact info for countless friends/websites/forums/Banking/signups etc etc etc..
For me personally, o2 closing the email facility is the worst and most annoying thing that I have come across in over 20 years of computer and mobile use.. and believe me there have been some very frustrating times.
Somebody said on another forum regarding this closure, that people were making a mountain out of a molehill.... well, that maybe true if you dont actually use the service, but for those of us that do, and now have to waste hours and hours to troll through everyhere we use a particular email address... this is FAR from the case.
Also, it comes across on their email that changing to another provider like hotmail or Gmail etc will be simple and hassle free for everybody.... well, IT WON'T.
Yes, its simple enough to create a new account and to start using it, But the history of everyone that has my o2 addresses, all the sites that I login in to (even the ones I haven't logged into for a year or so) is definitely NOT easy to replace.
Just as annoying is the flippancy that the email comes with.... it's like, "Yeah thanks for a good evening but I'm going home now... by the way, I just knocked a full bottle of red wine over on your new white carpet.... it doesn't matter tho cos you can get another bottle of wine from Tesco's, see ya !....... Carpet?? What Carpet?"
Well, after being with o2 for many (and I must say up until the last year or so, pretty happy) years, I will NOT be renewing any of my phone contracts with o2...
Im pretty gutted really, but I for one, wont be treated with such complacency and disregard.

I can think of several reasons why O2 Email is going to be closed: - 😞
Basically, these are all reasons why O2 Email has fallen short of the competition. I am amazed that the service has kept going in this state for so many years.
However, there are some plus points that I will miss: -

Yes I think the rather flippant tone of the email they sent demonstrates that o2 couldn't care less about those of us who have used their Email service, some for a great many years.
It's all very well for people who are incapable of thinking outside their own tiny little view of the world that some of us are making a mountain out of a molehill but in fact when you use an o2 email for many years and it is suddenly removed, it causes a great deal of unwanted expense and inconvenience, particularly for many business customers.
Shame on Telefonica I say. It may cost you millions when people like me dump you when our Mobile contracts expire but based on the sell off of Broadband and now this, o2 is like a sinking ship anyway so better to abandon it ASAP.

Hi
Recived email and been reading the comments and now totally confused.
Is it just people who had broadband with o2 then left or is it everybody?
As I have had mobile contract which the o2 email address was set up for. Then when o2 started broadband I got it and joned it to my 02 email address that my phone uses.
Last year I cancelled my broadband and but kept my mobile contract.
When you go on the webmail site it does not say it is closing either which does not help

Everybody who does not have O2 Broadband will lose their O2 email address.
