Can I ask why O2 charge for texts to the British Transport Police text service - 61016. Other operators don’t and I feel, that given we want to encourage people to report incidents to police on public transport that this fee should be waived by O2.

@skiloony

Calls to 101 are only free in Scotland.

In England they are 15p per call.

Texting 61016 is network dependant from a charging perspective.

O2 deem it as a premium rate texts. Other networks may differ.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Calls to 101 are now free, since April 2020. So the text version should also be free now!

We're you told by O2 the number was chargable or was it the phone warning that pops up on android when texting shortcodes?

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
