@TallTrees  Funny that we both remember the Commander being relieved of his duties and No I can't remember his name either.rofl The French rarely won naval battles if ever and this was expected to be a walkover for the English  Hah.

As you say though, the answer is in the alliance so probably matters not a jot who won in the end joy

So do I @TallTrees

Should have been the Tall Ships Regatta in Falmouth today. It has been cancelled due to the uncertainty of Covid all over the world!

My apologies to @jonsie @Cleoriff @TallTrees with regards to Q5 The Battle of Beachy Head question.

I was way out of line in my reply to @jonsie who first raised the question about the question, when I said the French were defeated by the Alliance. I was wrong. When it came to making my notes for the question, I made a stupid error and wrote "the French were defeated by the Alliance" [which is wrong] rather than "the French defeated the Alliance" [which is correct].

@jonsie was right in his reply to my post; as was @Cleoriff in her post; and @TallTrees has given some correct information.

btw - this question is not one of the two questions classed as "difficult" or the hardest question.

I apologise for all of this, which is down to me.

Fortunately, my mistake has not affected the results or scores of any of the answers pm`d to me so far.

No matter about that error in my opinion @Mi-Amigo. Happens to us all.

As you say it doesn't affect the outcome, as the Q was asking who fought with England at the battle of Beachy Head in 1690. Who won was irrelevant really. Pleased you explained it though. I shall no longer think my brain was fading rofl

Thank you for your note @Mi-Amigo

An interesting point here though :  after this astonishing defeat where everyone on both sides I recall were blamed for one thing or another and were relieved of these positions.

Britain built up their fleet to become the largest and ruled the waves (as it were).

I am here and there today : will give my answers later.

Not the hardest! OMG 😁
