Well, after a wasted trip to Liverpool today, I'm ready for a few.....Cheers

If this has anything to do with passports or visas....I know the feeling well. Trying a to get a new one for my son who lost his. Need a birth certificate...but nowadays they wont accept the small version ..so a trip to the registrar and pay over £30 to get an A4 version....then when form nearly completed you find you have to fill in yet another form to register it as lost....

Driving licence pretty much the same....need a passport to apply for a lost one. Catch 22.Crazy

Well I filled in the form for a year long visa last week and emailed it through to the Thai Embassy who approved the visa. So I made an appointment for 2pm today. Got there and the official looked at my passport and said because there was only 13 months left until it expiredthey couldn't give me a 12 month visa. Now bear in mind when I emailed the application form I had to send a photocopy of the passport....

With the visa you have to do a border run to extend it every 3 months and so there has to be 6 months left on the passport or they won't allow you back in the country. Why they didn't notice on the photocopy is beyond me!

So, I'm in Liverpool....off I trot to the passport office (20 minute walk) to be told I had to make an appointment for a fast track passport with a 4 hour turnaround, otherwise I wouldn't get it in time to travel on the 1st June.

So I have to go at 9.00am next Wednesday for a 30 minute interview (what???) and if succesful go and twiddle my thumbs for 4 hours, pick up the passport and hotfoot it to the Thai Embassy at 3pm for the visa.

At £1.80/hour for parking it's going to work out expensive.....oh, and the minor cost of £128.00 for a fast track passport which I had to pay today in order to make the appointment.

I have to go 15 minutes early to get through the armed police security and the scanner which was worse than the airport security today. Shoes and belt off and one hand holding my pants up while the lady probed me with her hand held scanner because I left my passport in my pocket which set off the bleeper!

Teatime traffic going through Liverpool and horrendous delays on the M62 and I have to do it all again next Wednesday....oh deep joy slight_frown

I just think they have tightened up a lot of their systems to try and combat illegal immigration and terrorism.

I can't fault them for this....but is so damn frustraing when you are in a rush to get things sorted because he needs a job and fast....needs to be able to drive to his job....and needs a passport to replace a 'lost' one (in order to get a licence) So time consuming...only to be told computer says no...Destroy.
