As @gmarkj has submitted his answers to all six questions, I can reveal the results:
@gmarkj wrote:
Q2 [geography]: Which town is the county town of Essex?
A2: Chelmsford
- correct = awarded
Q3 [words]: What does the acronym LASER stand for?
A3: Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (did physics at A level)
- correct = awarded
Q6 [food & drink]: Where in Britain did HP sauce originate?
A6: The chap who came up with it was from Nottingham but not sure if he made it there
- correct = awarded
This was the QI-style question - as most people assume it orginated in Birmingham. The Nottingham chap was F G Garton, a grocer, who created the recipe, and marketed it as Garton`s Sauce in 1903. He learned it was being served in the Houses of Parliament so changed the name to HP Sauce and continued to make it in Nottingham. Later Garton sold the recipe and brand name - HP Sauce - for £150 to pay off debt - to Edwin Samson Moore, owner of Midland Vinegar Co, in Aston, Birminham, who then produced HP Sauce.
Q4 [measurements]: How long, in feet, was one chain in pre-metric measurements?
A4: It's 60 something feet but can't remember the exact number
- close, so I`ll award a half star.
The correct answer is 66 feet = one chain was 22 yards [yds], with 3 feet [ft] in one yard.
Q1 [history]: During which war did the Charge of the Light Brigade take place?
A1: I think this is an American one, so will say the American war for Independence?
- incorrect.
The correct answer is the Crimean War of October 1853 to February 1856. The Charge of the Light Brigade took place during the Battle of Balaclava in October 1854.
Q5 [currency]: What was the currency of Finland before adopting the Euro?
Q5: No clue - the Franc?
- incorrect. Before the Euro, the currency of Finland was the markka
@gmarkj is awarded and a half - well done, and for getting the correct answer to
the QI-style question
How did those of you playing along get on? Did anyone get all six questions right this time? Please feel free to post your comments and feedback.

I would have done pretty well with this one @Mi-Amigo . (hateful to sound as if I'm bragging )
I think you needed to be of a certain age to remember the chain question.
As my other half was a DJ (and electrical engineer) I've always known what LASER stood for.
Also HP sauce has been a favourite of mine since a child...we rarely buy cheaper brands of brown sauce.
So a good quiz and well done @gmarkj
