Thank you for your suggestion of Homebase @pgn

Train was cancelled ..... it wasn't quite as simple as that ..... ASLEV are not doing any overtime ..... sitting frozen on the platform, all alone ..... paid by card so should take a few days to be in my bank ... I have a receipt and took part in a Northern Rail Comments leaflet which was Freepost

Thank you @blissgirl

British Rail should have been left as it was

'Let the Train Take the Strain' ... = ... slogan for an old tv advert for the railway

Have travelled by train since carriage / compartments seated 6 people 3 opposite each other

Remember playing 'Tippit' with my maternal grandparents when the 6 of us went for a Summer holiday to Bridlington in the bright month of June ..... Way, way back when ..... have the monochrome photos in an old album with those lick & stick corners to mount the postcard sized prints with translucent paper between the manilla white pages of a traditional photograph album. Of course the line was cut by Dr Beeching and is used as a cycleway / bridleway ... ?

Just to say the decent chap I have known for 15 years as a best friend will be getting a wardrobe delivered direct to him by the owner of the private development. Thank you all for responding with suggestions. I was supposed to see him on Monday but train didn't turn up = it's a long story.

My dear friend came down on the train to see house clearance people to meet with his support worker at his former home. He had a packed shopping trolley with him ... ... ... he appeared glassy eyed / far away ....... however the train appeared on time and I went back into what would have been the old Midland Hotel as the railway line was the LMS London Midland Scottish.

I support the RMT and ASLEF ..... but .....  they are not winning the Hearts & Minds of their Customers.

No Trains on Northern Rail today.

How nice of you to think of your old friend @RunrigForever.

Hope he is pleased with the new wardrobe.

We know all about delayed trains, buses and planes in this household this week.

Due to delays on a plane from Goa which made my eldest miss his connecting flight from Mumbai to Qatar, it cost 'the bank of Mum and Dad' £400 to get him home to Nuneaton. We had to buy a one way ticket from Mumbai to Heathrow. Ray drove to Heathrow to pick him up, only to find the plane was unable to land at Heathrow due to fog, and instead landed in Amsterdam!!

It flew back to Heathrow 3 hrs later but by then Ray had returned home!!

Then to add insult to injury, The National Express bus refused to honour his paid for ticket as it was booked from Stansted to Coventry!! A new one had to be bought costing £40 to get him from Heathrow to Cov.

Ray wrapped up again and travelled in a blizzard from Nuneaton to Cov bus station to pick him up at 02.15am!!

So lost faith in all those modes of transport as all (including a train) was either delayed or not running in the early hrs of the morning. Also no consideration for those who had missed connecting flights/buses through no fault of their own!

No trains today due to ASLEF.

I do support the RMT & ASLEF ..... but ..... they are not winning the Hearts & Minds of their customers !

British Rail should have stayed British Rail ... ... ... their slogan = Let the Train take the Strain.

Where I live in Skipton, North Yorkshire, known as the Gateway to the Dales ... well ... transport to the National Park and back is simply abysmal ..... long journeys with the fright of not being to get back home and having money in your pocket to find a B & B.

It would have been good for me to have learned to drive when young ... had lessons in various places ... but ... practice in the x-husband's car = well, he made me nervous & I made him angry

!

Talking about learning to drive....

I had lessons with my Dad when I was 18 but never bothered taking a test. That was my downfall I think. I could have been driving for years, gaining confidence as I was young. It would then have been 2nd nature.

However, I was always within walking distance of the hospitals I worked at so never bothered.

I took two tests in my 30's and failed. 😂 Even wore my uniform to the last test of that era. Didn't work.

As I went up the career ladder, I knew I had to learn as I was travelling to various other hospitals  teaching etc, so Ray knew a chap from work, who worked part time as a driving instructor and he was patient and taught me well. I had an incentive to pass my test as I would get a company car. Took my test when I was 49 and passed. (I don't know who was more shocked, me or my family!

However, leaving it that late meant I wasn't as confident as I would have been.

I actually enjoyed driving but could 'see an accident round every corner' (probably due to working in Trauma for a long time).  The other half, told me very begrudgingly, I was a good driver, 😂

A shame I had to give it up recently.

Well it's my car @pgn ...so I get to pick the one I want..... in the colour I want. 😂

Luckily, my other half who drives it, tends to agree with my choice 😂
