Use HTML code in your signature and enter it as below.
An example :
<p><font color="red">* If an answer has helped you, please mark as 'accepted solution' This helps other members with the same problem *</font></p>
* If an answer has helped you, please mark as 'accepted solution' This helps other members with the same problem *
for italics:
<p><i><font color="red">* If an answer has helped you, please mark as 'accepted solution' This helps other members with the same problem *</font></i></p>
* If an answer has helped you, please mark as 'accepted solution' This helps other members with the same problem *
Choose whichever =colour you want...red, green, blue etc.

Just put this before your sig
<p><i><font color="red">
and this straight after it
</font></i></p>
Change the word "red" for whatever colour you want

thank you MI5 for your input
but I still can't do it
I keep checking my typing
& it comes up with invalid HTML
& I've typed in just as you & jonsie have indicated
I'm so frustrated
very close to pulling all wires out of laptop
& chucking it at the open window

Oh no @Anonymous you mustn't do that. We would miss you. First thing - wherever you have typed your code could you highlight it and copy it, then reply to this message and paste into your reply the text that you copied. We can then examine it and make sure it is ok. If it is then we need to check where you are trying to insert it, and consider exactly what error message you are getting.
Do not despair, you will get there in the end!
