100 years old and died of pneumonia rather than covid
The symptoms are much the same as I found out in June but no doubt will be put down as a covid stat
I'm trying to be sympathetic but all the other 'celebs' flying out to the Caribbean and the Middle East were absolutely slated in the papers and on TV even though the rules allowed them to
I doubt Sir Tom will be criticised or the family members who flew out there with him
RIP all the same

To be honest @jonsie, I very much doubt this 100 year old wonderful man woke up one morning and said 'I know, let's all go to the Caribbean'.
It seems very much something his family would have suggested. (although the news is stating 'it was the last thing on his wish list')
Such a tragedy.

I believe @Cleoriff and @jonsie
That free flights were offered to them from British Airways.
If that's the case, then so be it @TallTrees.
However, with government advice being NOT to fly unless it's essential, I still can't condone it.
It was far too risky at his age.
Anyway this is a thread to respect his memory and life, I'll say no more.
A real loss, this man who inspired a nation.

This morning...
Social media, online petitions, TV and media reports, backed by celebrities, all calling for statue to Captain Sir Tom to either be erected on Fourth Plynth in Trafalgar Square or outside NHS hospital.

Before Prime Minister`s Question Time today, the House of Commons held a one-minutes silence in memory of Captn Tom and those who have lost their lives to Covid-19.
Boris Johnson has said he is encouraging people to clap at 6pm on Wednesday for Captn Tom and "all those health workers for whom he raised money"
