O2 Airwave, sold off in 2007

Anonymous
Not applicable

I just found out today that O2 sold O2 Airwave to Macquarie back in 2007 and it is now called just 'Airwave'. Okay I know I am only five years late hearing this news but I wonder if anyone has a view or opinion or even some actual info as to why O2 sold off a mobile network, albeit one that was not for public use? More interestingly what did Telefonica then do with the £1.9b they made from the sale? Buy back shares? Invest it in infrastructure?

Well they reckon they spend £1.5 million a day on the network, so I guess that will have helped.
