Some friend on FB posted it just now. I was a bit shocked as I didn't expected it.
Former Formula 1 pilot Niki Lauda died yesterday at the age of 70.
@Cleoriff was he still an expert on tv? idk.

Shocking news.
Niki Lauda 3 x WDC in F1 had been ill. He had a lung transplant last year and had been making a slow recovery, then was hospitalised in January with influenza
I think all who followed F1 expected him to make a return to the paddock later this year. He was a consultant with Mercedes. He will be sadly missed
R.I.P Niki. You were a legend
@ComaChameleon He was always in the paddock on race days. One of the team credited with bringing Lewis Hamilton to Mercedes. He will be missed. It's Monaco F1 this weekend. I expect a lot of tributes will be made.

Very sad news. He was a legend, an amazing driver in his day, and from what little I know, a lovely man.
He will be missed by many.
RIP Niki

And responsible for LaudaAir, too, in its day. And his, I guess.

Not forgetting the awful time in 1976 when he crashed at the Nurburgring and his car set on fire, leaving him with massive burns over his face and body,
SIX weeks later he was back in the car racing again
He once said " More powerful than fear, is the will to win" He went on to win 2 further WDC before he retired

Bye Niki good racing days. The accident must have taken its toll on him I suspect. He campaigned for more safety.
Yes it did take a toll @TallTrees The fire was thought to have caused irreparable damage to his lungs. Not diagnosed how poor they were until much later in life. He was such a fighter. A great loss to the sport
