I can't tell you how excited I am at this brilliant medical news....

A new genetics project could help unlock a series of secrets about devastating diseases.

Under the scheme, 11 Genomics Medicine Centres are being set up in English hospitals. They will open in February. They will gather DNA information to help devise targeted treatments for a wide range of diseases.

It is focussing on cancer and rare genetic diseases.

The aim is to look at the genetic code of 100,000 people within three years in order to develop new tests and drugs.

The NHS said it was aiming to be the most scientifically advanced healthcare system in the world.

15,000 families with rare diseases will take part in this project.

It's news like this that makes me wish I could have my time all over again...:smileywink:

I think this is brilliant but I do have concerns about data being sold to private companies. I'm not talking about drug companies who are providing the funding, but other private companies, in the same way as the care.data project.

I sincerely that the project is successful and many diseases become a thing of the past.

On watching the news one of the people being interviewed said nothing was to be sold on to any company.

It's a reference style library.

That's good news BoB. I'd hate the thought of my medical history being sold to the highest bidder which is why I keep meaning to opt out of care.data.

No they have given reassurance on that Tracey. Obviously the drug company is different although even then they say it would be case numbers as opposed to identifying individuals

Thanks for clarifying Cleoriff. As you can probably tell I don't trust anything that has anything to do with the government!
