Hi
My wife has found a Samsung mobile with an O2 SIM (I don't know if its contract or PAYG).
Is there someone in O2 that I can contact about this? I presume that you might be able to contact the owner if I give you the mobile and/or SIM serial numbers.
Thanks
Peter

Your best bet is to hand it over to the police - if the person reports it as lost or stolen then the police will have a record of that.

I agree - it would be ideal if O2 could do much more about it but unfortunately they can't. If the handset is barred that customer may already have claimed another one on insurance.
The process is that lost/stolen handsets go through the police and O2 only act on a customer's behalf when it comes to a handset being lost/stolen as opposed to any good samaritins - which is unfortunate.
If you do have a note of the mobile phone number - give it a few days and the chances are they will have it active on a new sim card and you can call them directly to tell them you have handed their phone in to the police?

Not really - O2 could pull it from the sim serial number but they couldn't give that information to you as it isn't your account.

No problem.
And thanks for doing the right thing - wish there was more that we could do in these cases
