Probably a good idea in theory, but will it work in practice?

"Kids near death and no one can find them" Sorry, I can't envisage that situation within a school environment

Should it ever happen, would the kid be able to use his phone to summon help (if he was near death)

Obviously we are talking from a completely different age perspective here...so whilst I respect your opinion @Anonymous it isn't mine.

Kids have managed for years without mobiles (in school and out) and yes society is different now and hopefully I move with the times ....but you won't convince me that personal mobiles are an integral part of a school curriculum.

Edited to add the word *personal*

You are deliberately misconstruing what I said.

I am fully aware that computers and tablets are part of the IT curriculum. My daughter in law is an IT manager at one of our local schools. Of course there is a place for that.

There is no place for personal mobile use. which is what the article is about.

Please don't refer to me as a nut again. Evil

Never called you nuts

statement retracted anyways because it’s pointless and a pointless ban.

The world is upside down and nuts and I really do give up tho and this thread to make arguments on and egos and options when it ain’t even us that have to deal with the consequences .

Some threads should not be made  @Martin-O2 @Marjo

It’s not up to you what threads should be allowed. This was a very enlightening topic which engages all opinions but with due respect @Anonymous If you don’t agree with something you see then leave that alone & move on to something you feel more comfortable with

Coming late to this thread I agree with the thoughts that this will be a difficult ban to enforce.

Kids nowadays, whether French or British, cannot be parted from their phones as they think life as they know it will end if they don't have access to them. And let's be honest there are many adults who feel the same and use their phones when they should be working or, even worse, when they should be concentrating on their driving.

The only way I can see this ban working is if the phones are collected as the children enter school being returned to them at the end of the school day.

I may be an oldie but my smartphone never leaves my side and is always in use. But there is a time and place, and children, not to mention many adults, need to learn this.

As has already been said what did we do before mobiles. Speaking personally, I managed just fine. But I was a lot younger, able to get out more and in better health. But, as a sensible adult, I know when to turn my phone off and put it away.

I'd also like to say I totally agree with and applaud @Anonymous's comments above. No one is forced to comment on a thread. We are all entitled to our opinions which should be respected and not ridiculed or disparaged.

Strong minded people clash there are more than two sides to a coin I am happy to post in any thread this one just triggered me thought posts are respected and are opinions thought anyone can question apon them and usually a response follows

The most negative thing I have said is the worlds upside down and stupidly nuts

Silly bans like this make me defy the hole system #wheresfreedom

I did get a little carried away but when you have a child begs the question which is for the greater good and I would say phones in school is a necessity

@AnonymousI agree. We all have different opinions on many things. I respect yours in the same way you should respect others. Everyone has a right to voice their own thoughts on the matter,

I think for the good of us all, we should just put this topic 'to bed' now... otherwise to use your own words, you might trigger others into a response and then we go round in circles.

Just for info.. anything (within reason) can be posted in Off Topic. That's the purpose of the section.
