Welcome to the Love Week Brain Teaser 2025

The Brain Teaser is open to all members of the 02 Community.

Those wishing to take part must pm [private message] me [@Mi-Amigo] with their answers between

       9 am today [Mon 21 April 2025] and 9 pm Wed 23 April 2025

so those who are busy or out-and-about will have a chance to join in.

Please DO NOT post answers on the thread.

Brain Teaser Questions

Q1 Four friends

     - Rachel Evans; Thomas Smith; Wendy Davies; Amy Evans -

     planned to go away together for Easter.

     Unfortunately one of the four friends was taken ill and couldn`t go.

      Which of the four friends didn`t go away for Easter ?  

 

Q2 What is the next number in the following sequence - [as shown by ?? ]

        2   3   5   9  17   ??

 

Q3 What is the next letter in the following sequence - [as shown by ? ]

        E   0    E   R    E   ?

 

Q4 A black dog stands at a busy crossroads in town.

      None of the street lights nor the traffic lights are working due to a power failure caused by a storm.

      The black dog runs into the road as a car with two broken headlights approaches.

      Fortunately the car turns before hitting the dog.

      How did the car driver see the dog and swerve in time to avoid hitting the dog ?

 

Q5 Two girls have the same parents. The two girls were born at the same hour, on the same day, in the same

       month, but the two girls are not twins.

      How is this possible ?

 

Q6 A horseman has four horses and two dogs. 

      The horseman, the four horses, and the two dogs are together in a stable.

      How many feet are in the stable ?

 

Q7 In the local cafe, 

      George; Helen; and Steve are drinking coffee; and Bert; Karen; and Dave are drinking tea.

      Elizabeth joins the group. Is she drinking coffee or tea ?

 

Q8 If 7/28 of 64 = 16; 9/12 of 100 = 75; 3/9 of 33 = 11

      What is 5/15 of 45 ?

 

Q9 Which letters come next in the following sequence [as shown by ? ]

       ELGNAIRT; ERAUQS; NOGATNEP; NOGAXEH; NOGATPEH;    ?

 

Q10 Last Tuesday morning, around 11 o`clock, three friends 

        -  Andrew; Brian; and Colin -

        went to a bank.

       At the bank, Andrew couldn`t cash a cheque; Brian couldn`t make a cash withdrawal from a ATM; and

       Colin couldn`t exchange Euros for £ sterling.

       The three friends left the bank and headed home with wet feet.

       Why couldn`t the three friends make the money transactions at the bank ?

Q1 Four friends

     - Rachel Evans; Thomas Smith; Wendy Davies; Amy Evans -

A1  Wendy Davies. The initials of the others spells EASTER

 

Q2 What is the next number in the following sequence - [as shown by ?? ]

        2   3   5   9  17   ??

A2  33 - each number is double the previous number minus 1

 

Q3 What is the next letter in the following sequence - [as shown by ? ]

        E   0    E   R    E   ?

A3  X - given letters are last letter in spelling of 1 [onE] to 5 [fivE], so next is 6 - last letter of X [siX]

A7 Elizabeth is drinking coffee. Coffee drinkers have 2 Es in name; tea drinkers have 1 E in name.

      What is 5/15 of 45 ?

A8  15 - 5/5 = 1/3 [one third]; one third of 45 is 15

 

Q9 Which letters come next in the following sequence [as shown by ? ]

A9  NOGATCO. Given letters are geometric shapes with increasing number of sides - letters in reverse order.

       ELGNAIRT = TRIANGLE [3 sides]; etc; NOGATCO = OCTAGON [8 sides]

I must say I initially thought the twins answer was how @Mi-Amigo rationalised it, but then I thought the more elegant answer would be if they were not twins as they were 2 out of a set of 3 or more siblings born at the same time - you win some, you lose some 😂
