Some people see things as they are and ask "Why?"; I dream of things that never were and ask "Why not?"

Not the NHS @ComaChameleon  The Dept of Work and Pensions (DWP) You have to be assessed by them and a doctor appointed by them. You complete a disability form (more then once). It has to be supported by a letter by your GP or hospital consultant.

You are then refered to the Motobility team and can choose a car which you like. It's paid for out of the DWP disability pension you are awarded. Taxed and insured. You change it every 3 years for a new car.

You simply pay for the petrol you use.

Disabilitity allowance is now part of  Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

You won’t be able to make a new claim for PIP once you reach State Pension age.

You’ll continue to get PIP if you were getting it before you reached State Pension age, unless your circumstances change.

PIP is not based on the condition you have or the medication you take. It is based on the level of help you need because of how your condition affects you.

You’re assessed on the level of help you need with specific activities. It’s hard to say if the level of help you need will qualify you for PIP. But, if you get or need help with any of the following because of your condition, you should consider applying:

  • preparing and cooking food
  • eating and drinking
  • managing your treatments
  • washing and bathing
  • managing toilet needs or incontinence
  • dressing and undressing
  • communicating with other people
  • reading and understanding written information
  • mixing with others
  • making decisions about money
  • planning a journey or following a route or moving around

So as long as you are between the ages of 18-65 or you haven't reached the new pension age you can continue to claim for disability until death do you part you from your new car perks!!!

I was age 66 and claiming pension for 15 months so even though most of the bullet points apply to me I'm too old.

A big thank you to the Conservative/Lib Dems Coalition party for changing the rules in 2013

I qualified before it became PIP @jonsie  and that was to do with my osteoarthritic spine.

It was (still is) divided into 2 parts.

1) Level of mobility

2) Level of personal care required.

Level 1 had to be the highest level to be eligible for a car. All of that allowance pays for the car itself.

(If you want something top of the range, you have to pay the extra yourself)

Level 2 is high > low.

Mine was assessed at 'Lifetime'

@Cleoriff

Thats so weird... Especially every 3 years a new one...

Here you get financial help for specials to be integrated into your car..

So like you buy a ... VW Polo and need a new seat + pedals - so you get paid new seat + pedals. All other things you pay yourself.

Here we go!
4 Navy Ships ready to protect British Fishing waters from January 1st in case of no deal Brexit.
Haven't we been there before ... think we have.
The cod wars 1950s 1970s .
What's our future.... is it wars with our European neighbours. We've definitely been there before.
