The BBC have announced that two patients in the UK have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
No further details have been given other than they are both members of the same family and are receiving specialist NHS care.

At present, 83 Britons and 27 foreign nationals are flying back to the UK from Wuhan, the Chinese city at the centre of the outbreak.
The flight is due to land at RAF Brize Norton at 13:30 GMT.
The UK passengers will then be taken to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral and quarantined for two weeks.

I heard this report on the news yesterday@pgn and was pretty annoyed about it. The media and scaremongering is the last thing we need!
If my backgroud hadn't been in medicine, it would have worried me a lot.
Particularly for those who have become less mobile and active over time.
I agree wholeheartedly with the author:
"I don’t think we can ever fully rationalise ourselves out of the basic and often creative urge to find patterns even where none exist. Perhaps we can just hope for some basic humility before claiming we know why something has happened".

62mins to go, and yes, it will be AZ here I guess.

This afternoon AZ is stopped in Germany too (I stitched 58 people in the morning shift with it).
Here there are 7 people with an apoplexy from 1,6 MILLION people who got the vaccine.
So even without that jab, they would've gotten the apoplexy as x people get a stroke daily.
Many people rejected AZ, so the last 1,5 weeks it got more and more accepted, the numbers of people getting AZ rised - and now all that work is destroyed again.
This morning one woman told me she was worried and thought about not coming to the appointment, I comforted her and told her it's ok, so she got her dose. But how many people will be unsure now - AGAIN?
It was used on under 65 aged people (and 80+ got Biontech, til now only 80+ and high risk workers get vaccines) so even that made people unsure. I'm sad the media are telling rubbish and making people scared without need.

I agree totally.
I just replied on your what made me happy post with this....
All a bit stupid, stopping Astra Zeneca, because 28 people out of two million have experienced blood clots. A lot lower than the number in 2019/2020 who suffered blood clots before the vaccination programme began.
Those who have had the Pfizer vaccine have recorded 25 people with thrombosis post vaccine.
We need to stop looking for conditions which happen post vaccine and blaming the vaccine for it.
To me it's similar to those deaths recorded as 'due to Covid-19', when a high percentage of those had pre-disposing conditions which meant they would have died anyway.
The media hype is ridiculous. All it does is cause worry and concern to people who are undecided about the vaccine.

@TallTrees It is political from other counties. All the scientific governing bodies in the UK, have clarified and confirmed the safety of the vaccine.
It's easy to bring politics into it when foreign governments are being accused of NOT rolling the vaccine out as quickly as the UK!
ie Any excuse to get themselves off the hook will do... lol

Totally. Some people are already concerned and worried about the vaccine without the media making it even worse.

What is even more distressing is the wastage of the vaccine unless it has been stored correctly

problem is since the "Contergan-Skandal" (see Thalidomide scandal ) back in the 50's accreditation of medicine in Germany is very controlled and much bureaucracy.
So we started very slow.
Plus doctors have a very big lobby, so physician's have many things which are only allowed for them to do (healing - giving medicine), so it's hard to organize all this.
Like vaccine in a pharmacy is unthinkable here.
I'm allowed to do the stitch because of delegation, but - I'm not allowed to do the clearance before. So the doc does and gives me the order to give the vaccine. But I'm not allowed to sign the vaccination card.
It's difficult.... And it's the same in EMS here.

Our vaccination programme has been organised by the NHS @ComaChameleon which is probably why it is running far better than any other part of this pandemic. Here we are vaccinating people in their 50's now. Both my sons have had an appointment come through.
