Welcome to the Summer Bank Holiday 2025 Brain Teaser

The Brain Teaser is open to all members of the 02 Community.

Those wishing to take part must pm [private message] me [@Mi-Amigo] with their answers between

       9 am today [Mon 25 Aug 2025] and 9 pm Wed 27 Aug 2025

so those who are busy or out-and-about will have a chance to join in.

Please DO NOT post answers on the thread.

Q1 Four friends - Johnnie; Jack; Carl; Gordon - are planning to go for a drink on Bank Hol Monday.

      Which of the four friends will be drinking larger ?

 

Q2 What is the missing number in the following sequence - [as shown by ?? ]

        13    27    ??    58    75 

 

Q3 If                 R + B = P

                         R + Y = 0

      What does B + Y = ?

     

Q4 Four cars come to a crossroads - each car coming from a different direction.

      All four cars are moving forward at the same speed.

      The traffic lights at the crossroads are not working.

       None of the cars stops - but no car crashes into another.

       How is this possible ?

 

Q5 Three girls were going to school but only had one umbrella to share between them.

       None of the girls got wet going to school.

       How was this possible ?

No member is to post any answer on the thread.

Any answer received after 9pm [21.00] on Wed 27 Aug 2025 will be declared void.

No googling, wiki, youtube search for answers - but you may ask family or friends for help

A1  Carl. The names are short for brand names - Johnnie = Johnnie Walker whisky; Jack = Jack Daniels;

                Carl = Carlsberg lager; Gordon = Gordon`s gin 

 

Q2 What is the missing number in the following sequence - [as shown by ?? ]

A2  42. 13 [+14 =] 27 [+15=] 42 [+16=] 58 [+17=75]

 

Q3 If                 R + B = P

                         R + Y = 0

      What does B + Y = ?

 A3  G. R [red] + B [blue] = P [purple]; R [red] + Y [yellow] = O [orange]; B [blue] + Y [yellow] = G [green]

Oddly, Sons and Lovers appeared, but I could not make the "on" "and" "over" connection, so rejected it. Ah well, first time I have encountered that type of puzzle - interesting!

I figured out the junction one yesterday, clever. And Andrew, well, why wouldn't he just point his iPad at Google?

SONS AND LOVERS!! How obvious is that when you see it written down?

I wasn't sure whether the author was included in that puzzle, so that's why I knew Sense and Sensibility was wrong. 🤣

At least we were all consistent .....in that we all got it wrong 😂
