Roaming Texts

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm just back from Canada and find I have sent 131 roaming texts. Data roaming was off but I sent photos of new baby as well as using emoticons in text messages and apparently this is what I have been charged so much for £52. I use texting when I go abroad but hadn't realised that if you use emoticons the message is considered MMS and I needent have used tham at all. Grr

Surely you knew that sending photos was though....? In future if you write your smiley as : ) (no spaces) it comes out like this slight_smile and it's just a normal text. You will still be charged extra for sending texts from Canada though regardless of roaming been on or off.

Knew about photos but not smileys so will use your tip. Thanks. O2 also says something about it being cheaper to send 2 separate texts rather than a 2 page text

If you keep below 160 characters it will be a standard SMS. Anything over becomes an MMS. Some phones have a count you can turn on to show you how many characters you have used.
