O2 to move jobs to South Africa
O2’s plans to transfer 200 UK jobs to a South African call centre run by its outsourcing partner Capita have been met with outrage from union leaders.
The operator said the move was part of ‘fundamental changes’ to its business strategy as it bids to become more efficient and respond to the continuing economic downturn and declining revenues.

They have stopped doing that and now listen with their wallet im affraid. All o2 see is Money, Money, Money or Telefonica does. When I was with Orange before FT, it was great, since FT it was Money, Money, Money and customer care last. It just proved it on the ground of jd power surveys. Orange couldnt be touched and were 2nd to none in the industry. All uk call centers, FT took over and moved most of jobs over seas and Orange lost out in JD Power surveys and just stays where it is.
O2 UK Call centers are top of the charts in JD or near enough top. Move jobs over seas and just watch it wave bye bye and to custom. They just dont get it.
Also Just had a chat with an online chat just curious. Spoke with a nice person and the question i said was.
Me: Why are you moving o2 customer service jobs to South Africa
O2: Were not, where did you get that information from
Me: The internet, Link here xxxxx
O2: We havnt heard or been told this

It seems O2 staff are always the last to hear about these things. I despair of the people in high positions making these ludicrous decisions and as usual it's the customer (and some staff) that lose out big-time.
I would love Ronan to pay another visit to these boards and justify this cost cutting as opposed to the long term loss of customers unhappy with having to speak to an overseas agent.
He was aware of the outcry and furore over the network outage in July by following the many threads and comments on the forum. Let's hope he has enough interest to check the depth of feeling on this crass stupidity by Telefonica.
Crazy decision!

The majority of customers who don't like this won't bother coming here to argue the issue, they'll just vote with their wallets and take them elsewhere.
