iPhone5 lock

I'm currently tearing my hair out thanks to O2's policy of not unlocking the iPhone 5/their refusal to do it. I purchased my handset outright.

My question; where in their T&C's does it say they can do this? How are they able to do this when I own the handset?

It is futile - going into O2 shops (again, not the company you bought your phone from - that was CPW) to test if staff members point out to you as a priority that iPhone 5s are locked to O2 is not going to help you get your iPhone unlocked any quicker.

If you really want to do something about it, write a letter of complaint to O2 and ask them to hurry up but there is no need to waste your time going around shops to prove a null point. The iPhone 5s are locked, we know that and you know that - as do most consumers who purchase them directly from O2.

The O2 staff do exactly the same. I recently asked for an Iphone 5 unlocked and sim free. " Yes sir, we can sell you an Iphone 5". No mention of the locking policy leaving me to find out the hard way.

You know as well as I do that your figures for selling Iphone 5's outright at full price, not attached to a monthly contract would drop if you were open and honest up front at the point of sale. If I specifically ask the saleperson for one specification then that forms part of the verbal agreement and contract even if the oposite is hidden in the fine print.

I don't think the prices for the iPhone 5 are decided on the assumption that our sales staff will lie to customers.

As I said before, If you feel this strongly about it you should write a letter or an email to O2 explaining what it is you are annoyed about and how they can help to resolve it:

I didn't suggest that O2 decide on iphone 5 prices for any reason. I was pointing out that your sales staff do lie when asked if a phone is sim free and unlocked. Proberbaly due to pressure of getting their sales figures in.
I have a video recording of an actual event ironically recorded using my locked iPhone 5. I asked three times if the phone is unlocked and was told "Yes". Only true if the girl was refering to the state of the phone BEFORE I plug an O2 sim into it.

Writing in to O2 complaints is more futile than continuing this conversation but thanks for the chat.... I have an O2 shop to visit slight_smile

The 'actual event' must presumably have been at CPW. O2 phones are locked to O2 before inserting a sim card. Good luck with wasting everyones time. Sad really.

Can I ask - how does any of that get O2 to unlock your phone?

Sim free and unlocked are two completely different meanings.

I feel for you if you have enough free time to go into O2 stores to do that I really do.

1) you target a company who wasn't in error for the case you present.

2) you must have somthing better to do with your free time?
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong. So Ive been told wink

Over the next month I intend going into O2 shops a going through the motions of buying an iPhone only to stop and read the whole T's & C's in detail. Then back out when I read the " Oh yeah, your phone will be locked" section.

How very sad! Smiley Indifferent
