I took out a pay monthly contract on 5th April and received the phone on the 6th.
I cancelled the contract today and paid for the device in full, but have been told I need to pay the first months airtime. I'm within the 14 day period, and haven't used any calls texts or data? Why is that the case? As far as I'm aware I shouldn't have to make this payment.

@AA1 You have to give 30 days notice regardless. Please read my guide here.

Min 30 days notice is required to cancel the airtime.

If it had been a change of mind within 14 days and you cancelled and returned the phone, you would just have to pay for any usage.
However, you didn't change your mind and by keeping the phone, you are deemed to have accepted the terms of the contract. It then became a contract cancellation for which you need to give 30 days notice.
