I am wondering if the sim could be faulty. If you can manage to get back to the shop they may change it for you.

What numbers are you trying to call?
Only those in this guide are included in your allowances Guide: Your Allowances - what is and isn't included
You can check what allowances you have and to see if the sim is active in your MyO2 https://mymobile.o2.co.uk/
