Very worrying. Hopefully other providers are checking and beefing up their security.

Just a quick question.
Do talk talk use bt lines?
At work today around 2 ish, the bt broadband went down, as did all the units in the near vicinity, as did my mother's and her neighbours.
Bt told my boss there was a local outage and they were working at getting it sorted, it came back on at 4 ish

All over BBC news at the moment and talking to the CEO of the company. The whole website is down but apparently TalkTalk are advising customers to change their passwords....They can't log on to do that .Confused Also a group has claimed responsibility for the cyber attack. No name given to this group at present.

How can anyone change their password when the website is down? How stupid is that?

This is going to cause major problems for a lot of people. New article on BBC News. Anyone concerned should watch the video associated with the link.

I was thinking about this last night and I suddenly remembered an article I posted back in February

http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Off-topic/Talk-Talk-Stolen-Data/m-p/854896/highlight/true#M49208

This company obviously learnt nothing...

Have O2 confirmed that the records they hold of customers' identities, bank accounts and so on are encrypted?

It's not the encryption that is important here....
