Welcome to the Spring Bank Holiday Brain Teaser

The Brain Teaser is open to all members of the 02 Community.

Those wishing to take part must pm [private message] me [@Mi-Amigo] with their answers between

       9 am today [Tues 28 May 2024] and 9 pm tomorrow [Wed 29 May 2024]

so those who are busy or out-and-about will have a chance to join in.

Please DO NOT post answers on the thread.

Brain Teaser Questions

Q1 If SPRING = 1; SUMMER = 2; what does WINTER = ?

 

Q2 What is seventy six minus sixty ?

 

Q3 Arthur leaves the pub and walks 3 miles north to the T junction. At the T junction, Arthur turns left and

       walks 4 miles to the crossroads. When Arthur is at the crossroads, what is the shortest distance in miles

       to the pub ?

 

Q4 There are 10 red socks; 6 yellow socks; and 4 blue socks in a drawer. In total darkness, without a light or

       touch, what is the minimum number of socks you have to take out of the drawer to ensure you have a

       pair of socks of the same colour ?

 

Q5 What expression can be found in the following

         TAHWEAPLAKRK

 

Q6 What can you hold in your left hand but not in your right hand ?

 

Q7 What is the next word in this sequence

          NOM    SUET    SWEDEN     HURTS ?

 

Q8 Two mothers and two daughters go out to eat. Everyone has one burger but, in total, three burgers

        are eaten. How is this possible ?

 

Q9 A man is found dead at the foot of a 13-stoery building. The local police believe the man had committed

        suicide. A detective arrives at the scene and goes to each floor of the building and, at each floor, goes

        into the room overlooking where the body lies below, opens the window, and looks down to the street

        below. On reaching the 13th floor, the detective repeats what he had done at each of the other floors

        and then announces that the dead man had not committed suicide but had been murdered !

        How did the detective know it was not suicide ? 

 

Q10 Four friends - Brenda, Terry, Brain, and David - rent an isolated cottage for their Spring break. They are

         the only ones there and there are no nearby neighbours.

         After unpacking and settling in, Brenda reads a book; Terry goes to play tennis; Brian takes a bath.

         What does David do ?

A1   2 - number of vowels in name of season

 

Q2 What is seventy six minus sixty ?

A2   seven - delete letters of sixty from seventy six

 

Q3 Arthur leaves the pub and walks 3 miles north to the T junction. At the T junction, Arthur turns left and

       walks 4 miles to the crossroads. When Arthur is at the crossroads, what is the shortest distance in miles

       to the pub ?

A3   5 miles. pub to T junction + t junction to X roads form 2 sides of right angle triangle. X roads to pub

                      forms hypotenuse of right angle triangle. Apply Pythagorus theory.

 

Q4 There are 10 red socks; 6 yellow socks; and 4 blue socks in a drawer. In total darkness, without a light or

       touch, what is the minimum number of socks you have to take out of the drawer to ensure you have a

Good grief!!! Dumbstruck (considering I dislike these teasers) 😂

Must admit to 'husband help' with a couple of them (which included Q3!)
