"Young people 'feel they have nothing to live for'"

This is simply awful.

So much life ahead of these youngsters and this is how some feel.

The same can be said for lots of stories in the media no matter what the subject is. Sensationalism sells !

You are creating that sensationalism by posting what you did here.

I have said what I feel, if you or your family need professional help you should know where to find it.

In a forum on the internet you won't, this serves no use to anyone here.

An online forum helped me through a very dark time in my life. As far as I was concerned at the time I was on my own but, by looking online, I realised that others had the same (and some worse) problems than me. I also made some very good friends who I now meet up with.

I appreciate it's not for everyone but it was a big help to me.

That isn't what the thread is about, you wouldn't use a phone forum for that type of help.

My argument is people saying that there is no future for youngsters today when that is totally wrong, it has been said for many years and has always been wrong.

Nothing to do with getting support online.

Maybe not. However I've seen a lot of people get help from forums that don't necessarily relate to the problem.

Neither way is right or wrong, it just means we're all different.

I get a bit cross when people keep telling youngsters they have no future, I have had my share of bringing them up and had to take a school careers adviser to task for repeating this myth and that was back in the seventies.

I'm glad I'm not a teenager or young person today. There seems to be a lot more pressure than when I was a teenager and I listen to the stories from the girls at work who have teenage daughters and I'm amazed at how different things are.

I don't believe that the government are helping matters by continuously raising the retirement age meaning there are less jobs for younger people. When I started work the retirement age was 60 and now it's been raised to 68 and will no doubt go up again. I don't want to work until I'm 68 so let me retire at a younger age and someone else have my job.

You can start your own or join an employer's pension scheme as soon as you can afford it.

You can then retire whenever you choose but will have to wait until the state pension comes through.

Most people don't give enough thought to their retirement and nobody should expect the state pension to be enough as it certainly won't be.

I've got a fairly good pension where I am now and I've got a couple of small ones from previous jobs.  Whether they will be enough remains to be seen!

A free initial visit to an independent financial adviser should help you to understand how much you have and how much you need to save to achieve the right amount.

Sadly most underestimate the amount they will need.
