A legendary name in communication will soon disappear. My first mobile phone was a Motorola Star-Tac.

The name nokia is set to come back in 2017. Nokia as a company only allowed MS to use the name for a few years. They are allowed to re enter the market in 2017. But rumour has it they will license the name to a small company as they have no tooling etc to make handsets now.

"To remind our readers, Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia's Devices and Services business stipulated Nokia could no longer use its brand on smartphones till Q4 2016, and on feature phones for 10 years."

I think at the time, everyone had a Razr. I'm sure I still have my old one. It was a shame Motorola fell behind when smartphones started to take hold. By the time they got back up to speed, they couldn't catch up. I remember Motorola products from my childhood days (a long time ago). Sorry to see the name fade away.

Did they specialize in other types of products outside of electrical communication when you were young @Bambino?

@Toby Neil Armstrong spoke his first historic words when he stepped onto the moon's surface using a Motorola transceiver. They made radios and televisions and a myriad of telecommunication products. In their time, they were a huge company. Unfortunately, they missed the latest boat, and will now fade into oblivion. I just think it's a shame.

So apparently Lenovo, who bought Motorola from google the other year, plan to keep the brand name around. (Sort of) - Moto by Lenovo

"Lenovo, which purchased Motorola from Google in 2014 will now be reportedly ditching the term ‘Motorola’ when it comes to smartphones, and it will instead continue as a division under Lenovo. All the new devices will eventually make a transition to ‘Moto’ branding instead of Motorola."
