I have recently moved to O2 and have been trying to find out how to connect to WiFi Extra. After talking to customer support and searching without much success, I stumbled across a way.

So hoping that this helps someone in same position as me and is easier to find.

Your phone should automatically connect to WiFi extra (at tube stations) if it cannot get a mobile signal. I could see WiFi Extra but not connect. If you have same, then do the following and you should find you connect automatically to WiFi Extra.

1. Open WiFi settings

2. Click Add network

3. Set network name/SSID: Wifi Extra

4. Set security: WPA/WPA2/WPA3-ENTERPRISE

5. Choose EAP method: Sim

6. Click Save

Hello to O2 Community. Can someone confirm that the O2 WiFi Extra is a secure network when automatically logged in. Also, as I do a lot of travelling, as an O2 customer is it possible to log in to WiFi Extra with my Windows laptop. If so, where do I get the password from.

@Salar

WiFi extra is a SIM controlled function so, therefore, is secure but not possible to connect on a device with no SIM.

Hello MI5, Many thanks for your quick response clarifying my queries. I will keep on trying to find a secure network when travelling with my non SIM device.

Hello! Thank you for posting this.

I've spent the last 8months trying to connect to the WiFi on the underground.

All the O2 FAQs have been pretty useless. Your tips seemed to have fixed my issues, so much appreciated. I'm just confused as to why I had to hunt around so much for a fix for the problem.

@Deaddoghouse created the tips after having to hunt myself.  As it is part of the guides usually on the front page hopefully that will be useful for everyone looking for the same 😁

Hi All,
I'm new to O2, so this may be a moot point.

Salar asked a very interesting question about connecting to a non SIM device...
MI5 answered with it is not possible. 😞
My question is... can you use Wifi Extra on your SIM phone... create a secure Hot Spot from that SIM phone and connect your non SIM device securely to the SIM phone Hot Spot?
Sorry if this has been asked or covered before.
Thanks for the info on the settings. 😊

@S1mmo

Sadly not.

You can only create a hotspot from a cellular connection, not a wifi connection.
