Android 4.4 KIT KAT

Anonymous

Hi All,

new version of Android Kitkat should roll out and will be available for couple new phones.

HTC One, S Galaxy S4, Nexus 4, 7 . and couple other. There wont be big changes, but should be faster and main thing save the battery. Does any one know more when we will get it?

I expect to have to charge once a day, don't know of any phone where you don't need too. Guess I'll wait anyway, can't be bothered with the messing around with BTU updates

All in all the choice is yours and MI5 is excellent at guiding you through if you need it but please be certain you want to rush it as the changes are fairly minimal in kitkat.

If you want to upgrade quickly just because you can and you don't follow the correct route it could cause more issues than it solves.

Good luck with whichever route you decide on

Not too bothered about the warranty, I suspect Samsung won't be all that quick or great at covering warranty related issues anyay. So I could do the BTU update then if I don't mind voiding the warranty?

As long as yoou get the phone unlocked first, yes.

Perfect, I have requested for it to be unlocked anyway slight_smile

Thanks for the info and help. The reason for wanting to update was a genuine one as I have to charge my phone twice daily atm and never had too with my Nexus 5. I'm not sure I want to go messing with the frmware on it though as I generally like to keep it stock

If battery life is your only issue take a look at "Go Power". It's the only one I'd recommend https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex.gowidget.gopowermaster&hl=en

Does anyone elses S4 use a hell of a lot of battery on the screen? Most days the screen uses more than 50% of the battery..I undestand it should be using quite a bit of battery but does that not seem a bit much to anyone else?

Yes. My S4 battery use was over 50% most of the time before kitkat.

I have just looked now before responding to you and it is running today at 36%.

Given that I have reported kitkat has resulted in improved battery performance for me I suspect you may have hit the reason why. Reduced battery use for screen. And I have been on it alot today using the screen all the time.

Seems we have stumbled upon what the battery improvements are caused by then in KK! Really looking forward to finally getting it anyway..just a shame it may be months yet..not used to having to wait for updates, always owned Nexus devices in the past tongue

It won't be months, more likely weeks, but I would personally wait til o2 release because if you try to force it another way and things go wrong your warranty is kippered. Not worth it on a £450 handset
