O2 Offer 3 discount schemes:

O2 Open is employer based (certain jobs qualify for discounts)

Friends and Family (F&F) applys if you have friends or family working for O2.

O2 Student Offers

All offers discount of the airtime portion of your refresh contract only.

Open is 15 or 25% depending on tariff (see T&C's FAQ )

F&F is 50%.

Student is 20%

A summary of Open T&C's are here T&C's and here for students studentoffer (follow the link for details on how to sign up to UniDays.

New O2 Open Scheme from February 1st 2017.

Step 1 – Registration
Start by signing in to My O2 Open at o2.co.uk/open using
your My O2 username and password. You’ll need the five
character O2 Open company code that you’ll get from your
employer. You should ask your HR dept for this.

Step 2 – Verify your registration
When you register, we need to confirm that you work for
the company or organisation, so you will need to give us a
valid work email address. We will send a validation link to
this email and you will need to click this link to complete
validation. Alternatively you can give us your National
Insurance number and upload a recent copy of your payslip.
We will check these details and send you an email to your
personal email address to let you know that you’ve been
validated successfully. This will take up to three days.

Step 3 – Apply your discount
Once we have verified your registration, you can log back
into o2.co.uk/open and select the number you would like the
discount applied to. Once the O2 Open discount has been
applied, it will continue for the remainder of your O2 Refresh
contract. If you upgrade to a new O2 Refresh contract, you’ll
need to re-apply for the O2 Open discount.

Latest O2 Open help pages here

For F&F the employee of O2 needs to register here http://www.o2justforyou.co.uk/ and it is their responsibilty to process the discount for you. So they will need your account details.

How to claim F&F and Student

To claim your F&F discount the employee member must confirm and process the request.

To claim your student discount text your code to 61202 from any mobile.

You will receive a confirmation text back that says you will be notified when your request is processed.

The F&F discount can also be applied to simo contracts (providing they are not already discounted by a special offer or web deal) and PAYG accounts but at all times the contracts must be taken directly with O2 (no 3rd party resellers) and notable exclusions always apply to new iPhone launches (check T&C's for full details).

If you upgrade you must also re-apply for your discount. It will not be carried forward to an upgrade or a new contract, even if in the same name.

Hope this helps in explaining the different schemes and claim processes.

Please read the FAQ's carefully as there have been other significant changes, such as no longer allowing customers to share their code up to 5 times. You can now only use it twice. Once for a Mobile Refresh contract and once for a Mobile Broadband Refresh contract.

As of 1st February 2017 this guide for the O2 open discount scheme no longer works.

You have to go to your employer for their specific 5 digit code to be able to apply for the discount. The system where you entered your organisations name an got your code has been made redundant in order to stop people from abusing the system.

@Eking7270I have messaged @MI5 about this. He will see it when he comes on in the morning

I have to say the guide is still correct.(I clicked on the link in the guide to provide the info I showed in your thread) https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Other-Products-Services/O2-Open-Employer-Code/m-p/1036147#M24258

So although the guide is correct ...it's actually the process of acquiring the code which has changed.. I just hope by changing the system O2 quickly provide employers with the code they can give their employees

To be fair it was open to abuse. Anyone can say they work for a qualifying employer. Before they introduced the applying on line you had to get the code from your employer so it seems they have gone full circle now.

Thank you "MI5" for clarifying what the 'benefit', of 30% off my O2, bills that my employer is offering me really means

As the discount only applies to 'Refresh' accounts and I have two SIM only tariff deals on my O2 account, it is not a 'benefit' that my employer has negotiated on behalf of employees that I can take advantage of

Very helpful thread, thanks again

Sorry it's not working out for you Paul, but keep it in mind should you ever take a refresh contract.

F&F has to be done by the employee.
You take a contract and give the account details to your employee friend and they process it all on the internal systems.

The way the system 'works' for NHS Discounts disallows volunteers from getting it. I'm a Community First Responder for the ambulance service. As a volunteer, although I give up time to go out and help save patients and train others to do the same, your system requires me to use a "pay slip and email address from the ambulance service" to quote one of your staff at Huntingdon O2 shop. As I don't have either how can I apply for the discount? All the staff member kept saying is that I would "need a payslip and email address". He wouldn't accept the word "VOLUNTEER" and "Don't have them"

I can walk into your competitors shop with my ID card and get discount as easily as that!

My face on my ID card from the NHS service.

Why can't it be that easy from O2?

@MooreCFR .....to answer your question ( note @MercedesS) O2 don't do easy.

To me and probably many of the other regulars on here, your entitlement is well justified.

Can you please assist as I have received my new phone and will return it within cooling off period if i can't apply discount as other providers are offering emergency service discount.

If I purchased an o2 contract from somewhere other than o2 shop or website... I.e. carphonewarehouse... can I still use a student discount Unidays code to get the 20% off the airtime?
by jonsie
on ‎05-09-2017 23:23

No, you must buy the phone either in store,  over the phone or online from o2.

by MI5
on ‎05-09-2017 23:25
As it says in the guide, it must be a refresh contract.
