Thanks to Dave-O2 for the instructions; my voicemail from O2 was, and alas is, still stuck on my iPhone 14 (iOS 18.4.1) despite following them. However after executing, at least the blue dot on the voicemail screen has gone, as has the red dot on the home screen phone icon.

But the 'Network Provider Voicemail' text remains. All it is, is a list of computer Menu options, but nevertheless irritating.

Incidentally this voicemail message only appeared shortly after having renewed to an 18 month contract by phone; this seemed to trigger it.

I have the same problem, stuck Network Provider Voicemail with the word “call” beside it. If you click on call it does the same thing as 901 from the keypad.

Tried the solution above but it hasn’t worked. Did a bit more research, turned Live Voicemail off / on. Turned O2 voicemail off 1750 and on 1760 from the keypad but none of this worked.

Any other suggestions appreciated. Have logged a call with O2 - will update if they get back to me any time soon.

And yes, davowolf, same here - the voicemail message only appeared renewing / upgrading a contract through customer services.

Try turning off wifi, drop the phone connection to 2/3G and leave yourself a voicemail

Listen to it and then delete it

Does that help at all @murray451 ?

Thanks @jonsie I’ll give that a try and report back.

Interesting that I now have two! I’ve just converted my SIM to an eSIM and in its place as a secondary put a PrePay SIM in just to check out how it all works. I now have two lines of network provider voicemails!

To change your mobile network to 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G -  go to your phone's Settings > Connections (or similar) > Mobile networks > Network mode or Preferred network type.

Here, you can select the network generation you want your phone to use, such as 5G, 4G, 3G, or 2G - so long as your phone and SIM support the selected generation and that the selected generation is available in your area (eg, 3G is decreasing availability as mobile companies remove 3G infrastructure to provision capacity for 5G, and beyond, provision).

Good luck!

Spoke at length to O2 and they went through all the same things already documented in this thread.

Next step is to try a physical SIM and delete the eSIM

Have you tried selecting a different network or mast? And flipping off the 5G SA switch, then down to 4G, and see if any other options appear? A reboot at 4G may reveal more options...

As I mentioned above, you may be in an area that is only 5G/4G - a trek up to the New Forest may be in the offing, @murray451 😉

A bit more on iPhone 2G/3G @murray451

It's set by carrier (and the loaded carrier profile).

When I'd pop in a SIM card from another carrier (such as T-Mobile), I'd have access to those 2G or 3G toggles again.

The idea was that the carrier doesn't want you to use those old technologies because they are planned for shutdown.

Close to home, and in particular in the New Forest there are areas where I can often only get a 3G signal. Will be interesting to see what happens when the 3G net work is shut down.

The 'Network Provider Voicemail' is still there even after I have now switched to Lebara - so much cheaper and just as good service so far. The solution of taking the battery out and reinstating it isn't an option for me, as suggested in MacForums, as it's to delicate a procedure. I'd have to take it to my local Watford Apple shop.

@murray451 - re visual voicemail, depending on your handset... If Android, see https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Tech-Support/Visual-voicemail/m-p/1625530/highlight/true#M34302

If iPhone: check if you have the idata bolt on - if not, contact O2 to get it enabled: Guide: How to find help & contact O2 - use one of the two available social media channels if possible.

@murray451 - Your APN, if on Contract with an iPhone, in your settings (Settings->Mobile Data->Mobile Data Network) should be idata.o2.co.uk. And O2 need to make sure iData is activated on your account as you are an iPhone user (not usually visible to you in your MyO2, as far as I know). Good luck.

Yes, checked that and it’s all there under MobileService / Mobile Data. I wonder if reset settings under that item might work?

@murray451 - that will just reset all the network settings to nothing; the O2 settings will be immediately restored from the sim card data. You will have to re-enter all your wifi passwords again...

@murray451

Just having idata as your apn means nothing with regard to having the bolt on active on your account.

If customer services can't find idata, ask them for data for iPhone or get them to check the tick box is set on your account for "using an iPhone"

According to customer services there is no tick box on my account for "using an iPhone”. The idata settings under Mobile Service / Mobile data are correct.

As I said above, that does not mean it is active on your account.

@MI5 you were quite right.

I was told by O2 Customer Services on September 19th that there was  no tick box on my account for "using an iPhone”. Turns out that indeed there is.

Yesterday evening (25th) I had a call from O2 who checked my account, checked the tick box for “using an iPhone” and after restarting the “Network Provider Voicemail” no longer appears.

Thank you everyone for your time and advice.
