Sim Activation

Hi, I bought an iPhone 5s today on contract with O2. I was told that my activation would normally take 24 hours but it is generally done quicker. However my iPhone says it should insert a sim, even though the contract sim is inside. Would this change once the sim is activated?

yes, there is a sim in there. It was originally put in by an O2 sales person. I have since then taken it out and inserted it back in. Still no change

Then I think sadly you will have to wait for the 24 hrs to be up. If after this, if it still isnt working then ring Customer Services http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

You wouldn't usually get an "insert sim" message even with a deactivated sim in the phone, but I hope iPhones are different and it's not faulty.....
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Insert sim usually means it's locked to another network or that possibly the swap may have failed.

As others have advised wait until tomorrow

Either a faulty sim or the sim swap hasn't been carried out. Either way, if it's the same this morning go back in store

I've just had a similar problem, started a new contract with o2, gradually lost connection on my old phone, waited for my new phone to come to life, and still saying 'no service' for three days (I've been travelling), finally got through to a guru who said bars had been put on my account.  It seems the phone was marked as lost or stolen, by mistake. Still waiting, could be another 24hrs but hopefully sooner!  What a palaver!

Hi there @Anonymous

When I read this two things came to mind...1, fault and 2, the account connection  didn't go trough.

If you have another phone, can you try the sim in it? If it works, then the iphone is faulty and needs to go back, if it doesn't, ring customer services and have them check the order, as it may be "stuck" (technical term!) and needs to be "pushed" to process. It can be a faulty sim, but the error message would be different, I think.

Hope this helps. slight_smile
