I think firstly you need to look at it in terms of need, do you need the accidental cover or do you think it'll get stolen?

  • If it's accidental the O2 cost of £6, is fairly good, it's monthly so it can be added to your phone bill and be nearly unnoticeable, but in total over the year it's about £72,

still fairly good but now comparing it to applecare+

  • The cost of applecare+ is £79 and provides cover for an extra year, that's a whole year of insurance for just £7 (about the same as a month from O2)

Then we come to the issue many people brought up about bank accounts and phone insurance, often they cover theft rather than damage so mostly we can ignore the old issue of insurance type.

Next we come onto excess,

  • Applecare+ Excess is £55 where
  • O2 is £60, so a small saving to the applecare+,

There's also the issue of the service quality,

  • Whilst O2 are amazing in store they deal with tons of different phones, so they may not be as specialised with iPhones, their call centres are often abroad or automated which can lagg the replacement process,
  • Going into an apple store they usually have phones in the back, and they replace it on the spot if it can't be repaired speeding up the process.

So if you have the cash upfront then go for apple care, if you don't quite have enough then go for O2 although if you find you have almost enough you can sign up with applecare within 2 months of the iPhoone purchase. goodluck with your phone hope you don't need the insurance but if you do then... well it's always handy to have the right kind.

Great summary! I find Applecare the better option if it is just from an accidental point of view as providing you are covered they will replace the phone for you in-store, or if you complete online they will offer an advanced exchange where they take your card details and post you a new phone, when you receive it you must return yours to avoid being charged.

*phones replaced are usually refurbished but with Apple refurbished you'll hardly see the difference.
