iPhone 5c going into recovery mode.

Today I lost signal on my iPhone 5c so i turned it off and when turning it back on it told me to connect to iTunes so i did this then to then be greeted with a message saying that i had to restore my iPhone which would mean i lost everything! Job interviews, university information, contacts, photos, everything! I can not stress how important it is to back up your phone as regualar as possible as i was not warned that my iPhone could courrpt at any time on its own so i did not back up my iPhone as i didnt think i needed too to then be told that they can not 100% garanty that any phone will not do this at least once in a 2 year period. When speaking to o2 on live chat i was told they could do nothing for me. I told them I do not trust my iPhone anymore as they told me my handset was courpt but when i asked for a new phone this was refused and the only thing i could do was send it off to be repaired and i would have to pay an extra £25 for a simple phone that wouldn't do anything i needed it to. They said the £25 would be refunded when taking the simple phone back when getting back my iPhone but i still do not understand why i had to pay extra money for a fault in the handset that they supplied.

Hi

How long you had the iPhone for?

If under a year, I would book an appt with the Genius Bar at your local Apple store.

Turn on cloud back up first off then you can restore from that in future.
The £25 is just a refundable deposit for a loan phone - It's your choice to have a loan phone or not, no one is forcing you to pay for the repair if it's under warranty.
Your other choice is to take it to Apple to have it checked. They will replace it if faulty and under warranty.

Try a soft reset.

Holding the Top Sleep/Wake Button and Home Button until the Apple Logo appears, and then let go of both. Your iPhone will reset.

And or ;

Settings , General , Reset , Reset All Settings.
