I think it would be a good idea to reintroduce older models of iPad and iPhone instead of just stopping sales altogether because some people, like my mum, would prefer to start using Apple using the basic models (e.g. iPhone 3G) and getting used to that phone first before jumping to the newest model.
Some people actually prefer the older models anyway.
