Upgrade but phone not working

I have upgraded and renewed my contract and as per instructions put my new SIM card in my phone. I now have no service on my phone --- why??????

That means the swap is in progress. Keep rebooting your phone until you get connected.

With the new sim in the phone you need to keep rebooting it until the new sim is provisioned and finds the network.

I am still using the previous iPhone5 and just upgraded to iOS 7 (as prompted by upgrade msg received from Apple on my phone). Phone has been working fine until today, when I have "No Service". O2 tell me that iOS 7 is only for the new 5s or 5c. Is this correct?
