No microphone icon in text box

hi can anybody help with this? Since downloading ios8, I don't have the microphone icon in the txt box that's supposed to be there. I can't finger an option to turn it on anywhere. I'm still on my iPhone 5 till the end of the month, my mates 4s has it, so don't understand why it's not appeared on mine, and help would be greatly appreciated.

Someone suggested that it only worked in iMessage in post 3.....?

Seen it MI5, but thought they were already on. That's what was confusing me even more, only when I was seeing if there was something in message options, that I noticed it was off. 😁
