02 Pay as you go - data connect total failure everywhere

Anonymous

Hi all,

I have an iphone 4s

Over the last few weeks ive had many conversations with 02 gurus and they cannot solve this problem. I signed up for 02 payg about 6 weeks ago and have never once been able to connect to the internet from all kinds of different locations across the south east, including central london with full 3g signal.

They keep telling me to check settings and try a new sim etc etc etc but it appears that the data part of my account is not yet activated.

If i try to connect, even in an area with full 3g signal i just get the following message - you are not subscribed to a mobile data service.

I had a text from 02 with a massive long web link which i cannot use as it will only accept the link from a phone not a pc, this link may have something to do with it ?

Any help would be great, no offence but ive totally had it with 02 guru chats !!

Just have a look at this thread and check your settings yourself. You will find it pretty easy to do (Credit to jonsie)

http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple-iOS-Devices-iPhone-iPad/Connecting-iPhone-to-Data-Services/m-p/54...

Settings are usually obtained from the simcard or sent by O2 to the phone.

If you are having data connection issues there are different options to try.

First try cleaning the simcard and rebooting the phone.

Try a soft reset by holding down the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears at which point the phone will start the reboot process.

Try going into settings > general > reset > reset network settings and then reboot the phone.

If you need to enter the settings manually then follow the steps below :

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap General
  • Tap Cellular or Mobile Data
  • Tap Cellular Data Network or Mobile Data Network

Now you will see a page headed Cellular Data or Mobile Data.

Enter the settings below:

APN : idata.o2.co.uk  (PAYG : payandgo.o2.co.uk)

Username : vertigo

Password : password

Visual Voicemail  (PAYG : n/a)

APN : idata.o2.co.uk

Username : vertigo

Password : password

MMS

APN : idata.o2.co.uk (PAYG : payandgo.o2.co.uk)

Username : vertigo

Password : password

MMSC : http://mmsc-ac.mms.o2.co.uk:10021/mmsc

MMS Proxy : 193.113.200.195:8080

MMS Max Message Size : 2097152

MMS UA Prof URL : leave blank

Note : If you have a standard data bolt on rather than an iphone tariff, substitute mobile.o2.co.uk for idata.o2.co.uk

Reboot the phone and you should be good to go.

Many thanks,

I dont have "Cellular or Mobile Data" in settings - general

I texted "ACTIVE" to 2020 and got the same massive weblink that i had before, this link only works from the mobile and as i cannot get access i cannot use it.

I need to enter the settings manually but cannot find "Cellular or Mobile Data" ??

Thanks

You should be able to see Mobile data.

If you are having no joy at all you may need to book an appointment at Apple

Now working, i did a reset (which ive tried a hundred times in past few weeks) and its sorted ! Phew, i was about to chuck my 02 sim in the bin, along with the vodafone sim and virgin sim that previously went in the bin !!

Maybe it was deleting a profile that fixed it ?

I'm guessing the phone had a previous apn still set as default and deleting this reset the phone with the O2 apn active.
