A new billboard has been developed that releases a mixture of a lactic acid solution and carbon dioxide which mimics the smell of human sweat and breath. mosquitoes are attracted from up to 2.5K away and will stick to the board and die.

Whilst I'm a bit sceptical of this if it works it could be a very useful tool in the fight against mosquitoes and the disease's they carry. As mentioned in the article there is a risk of attracting mosquitoes to populated areas so it will need some testing before it's deployed.

What do you guys think? Is this a gimmick or could it prove useful?

I would welcome anything that stops the spread of this virus.. (Long discussion about it Here)

Not sure how effective this would be though? My main problem is these billboards would encourage mosquitos to an area ....therefore making people more vulnerable to bites.

The science behind it is good.....but it depends where these billboards are placed.....and how long they would remain effective before they needed renewing....

Put it this way, with the Olympics nearly upon us, I hope they are not considering putting them near the stadiums just yet....

Maybe putting them up high away from the human traffic would work? Although I have no idea of the average cruising altitude of mosquitoes

No nor me re cruising altitude....I am sure though that given the choice of sweaty billboards or a bite of a human...the mozzie would go for fresh meat...:smileywink:
