Private messages at work can be read by employers, says court -

Personally if I was an employer with rules in place I would welcome this. Employees need to be aware of this ruling.

You should be allowed all privacy in messages but if it is in work hours & not in a break time then they shouldn't be used for personal use,

Common sense really.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

What comes under the 'personal message' tag? Messages to anyone but employees or does it include messages between employees? Who decides what is a private message and what is a personal message?

No-one should be private messenging anyone in work time.....unless it is work related. There is a clear difference between those two however i.e

An employee messaging the boss or work colleague. Or an employee messaging their other half to ask what's for dinner...:smileywink:

I was once 'bullied' by office staff 'monkeying about' emailing each other about me ... ... ... needless to say I only lasted that one day ... ... ... wasn't the sort of place I wished to work or would ever be comfortable to be in ... ... ... totally agree with what @Cleoriff has posted above

I don't know any company that would be happy allowing any employee to use company equipment in works time for private messaging or anything else not work related, for that matter....
I know of people that have been dismissed for using FB and other social media too.

I agree, no employer would be happy. The young people now though feel lost unless they can keep in constant touch with their friends, so different from my own upbringing and working life.
