Scientists from the Sanger Institute in Cambridge have undertaken research which has given them a near-perfect picture of the genetic events that cause breast cancer.
This is the largest study of its kind.
To understand the causes of the disease, scientists have to identify what goes wrong in the DNA that makes healthy tissue turn cancerous.
There are about 20,000 genes in the human genome. Of these, 93 genes have been identified which, if mutated, will convert a normal breast cell into a breast cancer cell
There are already drugs that can deal effectively with some cancers..…now, due to this research, further drugs will be developed to target these specific mutations/cancers.

We have seen many pass away this year after 'a short battle' with cancer. It's sad that this is one battle that really needs more research but as long as these dedicated scientists and doctors can discover more and more, it's a battle that surely one day we will win.
