Do I have to tell O2 I'm going abroad?

If it is for a short break or holiday, no - but depending on where you are going, you may need to disable voicemail before you go Guide: All you need to know about O2 Voicemail 901 and determine the best way to keep your call costs in control Guide: Roaming MegaGuide and https://www.o2.co.uk/international/using-your-phone-abroad

If leaving to live outside the UK for a longer time, then whilst you don't have to inform O2, you may find cancelling or changing/upgrading your contract can be a bit tricky and may involve costly phone calls back to O2. The best way to keep in contact with O2 in that case is via Social Media, the three O2 contacts for Facebook, X, and Instagram are listed in the link just below, @Dbop64 - hopefully that helps.
