apple watch not sending text/calling

My son has an apple phone and watch on O2. I have a phone which isn't on O2. At first he was able to call and text me from the watch but now he can't send texts or call my phone at all. His friend is on O2 and the texts go through no problem there.  I'm really annoyed because I got him the watch so that he can call me when he's out, but if I have to be on the same network then it's a complete waste of money.  Can someone enlighten me please on what the problem may be?

It doesn't matter what network.

Have you checked to see if you've accidentally blocked his number?
