No Internet whilst on the phone

Hi all

I have read a recent post regarding this subject however I own a Samsung galaxy alpha and I too cannot browse the internal whilst on a call. This is a pretty standard function on other networks so what's the problem here.

Please help

This happens quite a lot.

Basically it depends on the strength of signal from the mast you are connected to. If the signal is strong, you can use calls, texts and gsm data at the same time.

If your connection is week, the pecking order is calls, texts then data so the mast will give you enough capacity to make a call and maybe even send a text but if there isn't enough capacity for data too then that drops.

Are you far from your nearest mast? This happens on both 2g and 3g but not 4g as that is currently data only.

As far as I understand it and how my iPhone operates I can be on a call and use the internet on 3G but not 4G.

If your network signal is not strong and drops to 2G this is why your Internet may not work.

as i understand, 4G is not supported for voice calls so the handset will revert back to 2G or 3G

using the internet whilst making a call would be very slow

@Anonymous is correct. 4g is currently not used for calls, data only.

Works fine on my Note 4 and did on my Z1 previously.
It has to be signal strength related but it will only be 3g as advised above.

So...here I go with another question then.

If 4G only supports data ...then would someone who uses their phone to text and make calls (more than use data).... be better off sticking to a 3G sim? Smiley Embarassed

Most probably, at least until VoLTE is available.
