Voicemail messages from people.

I am an 'oldie' trying to get to grips with my smartphone.  I don't seem to be receiving voicemail messages when someone rings my mobile and leaves a message.  Missed an important hospital message last week.  Have I missed doing something to set it up??

Voicemail should be turned on by default.
You will see a notification on screen if someone has left you a message, usually a badge on the phone app icon.
Dial 901 to listen to any messages left for you.

Can you see a symbol at the top of the phones screen that looks like a cassette reel at all?
What phone have you got?
