These settings should work:

Name 'O2 UK' (anything)
APN 'mobile.o2.co.uk'
Proxy 'not set'
Port 'not set'

Server 'not set'
MMSC 'not set'
MMS Proxy 'not set'
MMS Port 'not set'
MMC '234'
MNC '10'
Authentication 'not set'
APN Type 'default,supl'

then, a second APN, to handle the mms

Name 'O2 mms postpay' (anything)
APN 'wap.o2.co.uk'
Proxy 'not set'
Port 'not set'
Username 'O2wap'
Password 'password'

Doesn't work, I'm afraid. However there is one setting that's not mentioned and that is IP Version. As there are only 3 settings I will try 'em all and see what happens. Pizarro

You will need to reboot your phone to allow the new settings to take effect, so make sure you reboot between changes or else you will never know what works or not....

I have a HUAWEI ascend g300 which I have unlocked & tried to set up.

I was given this method yesterday when I chatted with a Guru :

  1. Tap the Menu icon
  2. Slide to the second screen
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Network settings
  5. Tap Data Account
  6. Tap the triangle icon
  7. Tap Add
  8. On Account name enterO2 Pay Monthly
  9. Highlight APN and enter wap.o2.co.uk
  10. Highlight Username and enter o2wap
  11. Highlight Password and enter password
  12. Highlight Auth. type and check that this is set at Normal
  13. Skip past Primary and Secondary DNS as these are preset as 000.000.000.000
  14. Press the OK button
  15. Tap the Tick
  16. Tap the Back arrow three times to return to the main menu
  17. Slide to the first screen
  18. Tap WAP
  19. Tap Internet service
  20. Tap Settings
  21. Tap Profiles
  22. Tap Add new
  23. Highlight Profile name and press the OK button
  24. Enter O2 Monthly and press the OK button, then tap Done
  25. Highlight Homepage and press the OK button
  26. Enter http://wap.o2.co.ukand press the OK button, then tap Done
  27. Highlight Data account and press the OK button
  28. Tap GPRS
  29. Tap O2 Pay Monthly
  30. Skip past Connection type as this is preset as HTTP
  31. Highlight Username and press the OK button
  32. Enter o2wap and press the OK button, then tap Done
  33. Highlight Password and press the OK button
  34. Enter password and press the OK button, then tap Done
  35. Tap the Save icon (bottom right corner of the screen)
  36. Tap the tick to the question Save?
  37. Tap O2 Pay Monthly, you should see the screen say Activated.
  38. Tap the Back arrow, four times to return to the standby screen.

However this did not work for me.

I have tried the method posted above by Perksie but ...

Oh hang on a minute...

I now have a green letter G at the top of my screen.

I have turned my wifi off within network settings & hey presto ! I have tried a search in Google for something I know will not be in my cache & although slower than wifi ( i expected that ) it returned my search.

There are two arrows when the phone is retrieving data above the letter G so I suppose this is how the phone shows that it is working.

I did turn the phone off & on again after I made the settings.

I hope this is of help to you.

My only question now is will the phone automatically pick up the mobile internet when I am away from home ( & visa versa ) or do I have to go into settings & manually do this myself?

The phone should automatically switch to wifi when in range and cell data when no wifi is present.

I will try it when I remove myself from the keyboard & venture outside into the real world later today.

I will update later.

Thanks.

I have tried the PERKSIE settings (thanks) changing the IP Version and rebooting after each change but to no avail.

I cannot find the settings referred to by SMOKING_GUN, namely Data Account and Profiles.

They do not exist within settings on my phone.

Stumped!

I have noticed that my wife's android phone includes something called MMS PROTOCOL which is set at WAP 2.0. within APN settings. Should this go in my phone somewhere?

Huawei ascend g300

Oh dear.

I have updated my phone from gingerbread to ICS to try & fix the notorious volume problem.

The update worked fine but the volume problem persists. However I digress somewhat.

I have tried to reset the APN wap settings but I am having no luck. I have followed Perskie's instructions as before but this time my phone will not connect. I don't know if the update has confused the phone but it will not now play ball.

I have got a grey letter G just above the signal indicator ....

Oh hell ! Wouldn't you just know it. It has connected.

Maybe I should be a little more patient.

Sorry for the moan.

Thanks again o2 for the info.

Now to try & sort out that volume problem..

Anyone got any bright ideas ?
