Hi all, I stay in a place for 3 weeks at a time every now and then that has mobile service but no broadband. My Honor 9x won't tether properly to my laptop (switches off every 30 seconds) so I have a payg dongle. The O2 store put me on a 'big bundle' last year. When I knew I needed the dongle again I topped up £10 which gave me a balance of only £3 so I had to top up £20 in total. O2 live chat said they couldn't help with my query. I might only need the dongle every 3 or 4 months and only want to pay £10 when I actually have need of the dongle. If, say, I topped up in March then didn't need the dongle again until July, would I have to pay £10 for each of the unused months ie would have to top up £40 in July in order to get £10? TIA.

Big Bundles take the value out of the balance on your PAYG account on the anniversary of the date you first put money on the SIM to activate it, @Katoluce - then the only necessity to keep the SIM active is to make one chargeable call/transaction on it once every 6 months. Then you can get away with only topping up £10 every 4 weeks, or twice if your 3-week window spans the anniversary date.

Hope that helps?

@Katoluce

The problem you will face is that you can't use a big bundle phone sim in a dongle.

You need a data sim. Options can be found here https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/sim-cards/pay-as-you-go#simtype=freeSimIpadsTablets+lightsurfer
