I don't know what is going on here and I'm not sure I believe it, but a thread has appeared elsewhere saying that O2 Webmail will be closing at the end of the year according to an O2 Web Chat advisor.

Maybe Chiara could check this out as people using this service may need to make other arrangements.

Lucky escape!

The £1.60 BT are asking for would be peanuts in relation to re-painting vans and re-printing stationary, quite aside from any lost business due to bounced emails.

To answer the email question, yes, all active users will receive an email.

Thanks Toby.

Any idea what happens to the mailbox of users who left O2 Broadband before the Sky takeover?

I would have paid that happily.

OK I stand corrected Smiley Frustrated, though I think more notice would have been appropriate. Surely the email notices should have gone out concurrently with that page going up.

However I am now confused as to which mailboxes will be affected as though I still have broadband, the address allocated at the time of installation is not used, only a legacy genie account allocated as a secondary account, and an account used for notifications re the broadband but not linked to that service.

Oh and a piece of errata on that page re transferring to Hotmail.com

That should read Outlook.com

@toby or @chiara

How will this affect those isp's that you block port 25 and users have to send via o2 smtp?

Or will the removal of the o2 smtp server allow all isp's outgoing email servers to be used?

We still see threads that this occours on

Please also look into the question I asked earlier: "Any idea what happens to the mailbox of users who left O2 Broadband before the Sky takeover?".

That's probably why the service isn't being removed for O2 Broadband customers, so they can continue to utilise the SMTP server whilst port 25 outgoing is still blocked.

That said, they could still just advise customers to use smtp1.bethere.co.uk instead.

So, to answer your question Oliver, when a Home Broadband customer cancels (or moves to sky or migrates etc), their @o2.co.uk account will remain open but as a normal portal account.

I hope that helps,

Cheers, Toby

P.S. I'm looking for some info on your question Adam.
